ABOUT THE BOOK

The book focuses on the impact of gender specific risks including especially hardships, discrimination and violence on women's general health, psychological health and well- being and at exploring strategies for support, treatment and prevention in this important area. Ignoring and discrimination against women's health is also perceived as violence against women. This book strengthen research and offer solutions to the stigma of gender and mental health and the role of women, addressing evidence based practice, health promotion, and ethical standards. The book intends to focus on health concerns of women belonging especially to the economically and socially marginalized sections.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. K. MANIMEKALAI, Professor and Head, Department of Women's Studies, and currently Director in Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India. She worked as a Vice- Chancellor, Mother Teresa Women University, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, former Registrar and former Dean of Alagappa University. She has 31 years of experience in teaching and research, training and extension programmes. She has produced a number of M.Phil and PhD candidates. She has published more than 70 publications as books, articles, and research reports. Her area of specialization is women empowerment, gender and development and prevention of gender-based violence. She has completed more than 20 research projects sponsored by National and International agencies. She has been bestowed with several honours and awards such as best Vice-Chancellor award for the year 2012-2013 by the Indian Red Cross Society and best teacher award, best student award, etc. she has presented many research papers in national and international level and participated in several international programmes/seminars/conference as chairperson of technical sessions, group leader, invited speaker and
delegate.

Dr . A. RANJITH KUMAR is currently working in the Department of Women's Studies, Alagappa University, Tamil Nadu, India. He worked as a researcher and teacher in
various Indian Universities. He obtained his M.A in Development Administration, Bachelor of Physical Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and Labour Law,
Master of Population Studies and Ph.D. from different Indian Universities. He qualified National Eligibility Test for Assistant Professor in Human Rights and Duties, Political Science, and Public Administration conducted by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. He was awarded Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Postdoctoral Fellowship in Humanities and Social Sciences (including languages) for the year 2014-15 from University Grants Commission, New Delhi, Government of India. His main research interests are in the areas of Dalit Studies and Development Administration. His various research papers have been published in leading professional journals. He has participated in various training programmes at the National level. He has presented research papers at many national as well as international conferences. He has been an active member in the various committees and associations in India and abroad. He is being an active editor and reviewer in Peer-Reviewed journals in National and International Journals.
